Children Book Buying Guide

Books Worth Buying Part 1 for 2017

I hate hearing when kids don’t like to read. It totally irks me. Reading saved my life. It
gave me friends when I didn’t have any. It taught me lessons my parents should have.
It expanded my limited thoughts. Reading was my life line. Reading is like breathing to me.
Who doesn’t like to breathe?

I believe kids don’t like to read for two reasons. First, they don’t have a fast enough
reading speed for it to be fun. The only way this improves is practice. Second, they don’t
get good books. There is so much junk on the market. It helps when you have someone,
that is an avid reader, direct you. Don’t get book picks from people that only read a few a year!

Good books are hard to find. I know! I have plowed through close to 200 children books so
far this year. How many would I say are worth buying?
Not many.

Here are some that are worth putting on your bookshelf.

Children 8 and up

Buying Children's books can be a frustrating experience. L.A. James shares her top books for childrens books for the first part of 2017.

I am not a big dragon reader, but I will admit, I really became fond of these characters. I am eagerly awaiting
book 10. I told my kids I was going to put book 10 on my Kindle and make them wait until I was all done
reading it before they could.

What torture.

Based on my kid’s suggestion, I read the books in the following order. I suggest you put Darkstalker’s
book between 8 and 10. It really is the best place for it.

Spiritual Growth 2 And Up

A unique, Christian, read aloud book designed to enable parents and grandparents to easily
share Biblical wisdom with the children in their lives. Don’t read it once and put it on the shelf.
Take the book further. Each purchase comes with the ability to download free resources, which
will enable you to impress God’s word into the minds and hearts of the children you love.

  1. Be ~ Biblical Wisdom for Children by L.A. James

18 and up

I really didn’t expect to like this book that much. It sounded dull. I was completely wrong.
I was fascinated by the ideas, and I enjoyed his personal stories. I found myself always telling
my husband something, at midnight, as I read through this book. It usually started with, “You gotta hear this….”

  1. Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion by Robert C. Cialdini, PH.D.
