E-learning Internet Safety Course for Non-profit Organization

The Reiner Center for Internet Safety realized that internet safety is something many people believe they understand, but few truly do. They wanted to target ages 20-35 with a course on internet safety that was different than the norm.

I created a storybook-like “Choose Your Own Adventure” for module one that was futuristic in tone. I either heavily manipulated the graphics (before AI, so everything was done from scratch in Adobe Photoshop) or created them from scratch.

Have a 90 percent completion rate. Have less than a three percent rate of complaints that the material is boring!

Module one set the tone. It was a way for me to gauge how participants felt about the subject matter, ultimately determining how much they engaged with the following modules. This module also allowed for data collection for a view of the entry levels of evaluation.

Learners would be taking the courses on their home computers, and previous analysis had determined the analytics of users’ typical computer specs, which allowed us to utilize music at different junctions to amplify the role-playing game motif further.

Internet safety can be a boring topic for the targeted age group because it has been “taught” so often. I wanted to gain attention quickly and have participants interact with the storyteller, which was outside of the realm any other training produced by this non-profit. I modeled it based on the type of role-playing video games in the current market.

Microsoft products were used to create wordage and send communications.

Graphics were created in Adobe Photoshop.

The course was created in Adobe Captivate Classic.

The storyboard was created in Adobe InDesign.

I utilized xAPI for the evaluation. Statements were generated and tied to each choice being made and then monitored through the LRS. This allowed detailed responses to determine what employees would need further training.

This course is called “Whispers at Night.”

There is audio at the beginning and end of the course to set the mood of the story. There are multiple endings based on your test score.

This is best viewed on a desktop. It was not built in a responsive design.

You must sign onto the LMS before you can access the course because a public access point was created for you to view it. You will then have to input that same information on the beginning screen of the course.

If you get a “Popup Blocked” notice, just click “Launch Course.”

The first set of images are the modular landing pages.

The second and third sets of images are some of my favorites from the course.
