Non-profit Organization Moon Phase App Design

A non-profit organization wanted an app to teach participants the different moon phases to use at their conference.

Introduce participants to the moon phases and encourage them to learn more about nature and the world around us.

The participants for this non-profit organization are between the ages of twenty and eighty-five and are interested in nature. This app was to be visually pleasing for all (no small feat) and simple in design. It needed to teach the moon phases and provide ways to allow participants to learn more about this topic.

The initial screen contained animation where the stars twinkled, and the words “Moon Phases, Look up for Wonder!” moved from the bottom of the display to the top of the display to produce visual engagement. The interface was simple so that participants would have no learning curve. The participant logged in, and the moon phases were clear buttons, which led to a one-page scrollable page detailing different information about that moon phase. Participants had a clear back button to return to the main menu.

Microsoft products were used to create wordage and send communications.

Graphics were created in Adobe Photoshop.

Adobe Bridge was utilized for file management.

Adobe Xd created the app layout and allowed a functioning mock-up to be deployed during Alpha testing.

I created a login/new user account landing page so the organization could evaluate logins, times, and other user metrics to determine the areas most utilized. A simple evaluation asking for user feedback would pop up on the screen, asking the users for their input at the one-week mark of use.

I recommended simplicity in the app design because of the age range of the participants. I suggested a sky theme in the mood board that followed the conference’s overarching color selection.

The first set of images is the ideation stage with a color palette, style guide, overall buttons for the app, and a small set of wireframes.

The second set of images are some of the final images for the app. Each screen would have a visual and a microlesson on a concept described by the title, and it would be scrollable with different microlessons dealing with each moon phase.
