My kids see a lot of before and after shots from Photoshop. I am constantly showing them
how people manipulate images for some purpose. It might be to sell a product, it might be to
convince the viewer of something, and it might be innocent and just reduce skin imperfections
the camera picks up.
One day my son declared he would never believe what he sees in a picture, but I realized he was putting videos
over still images. Still, images he knew could trick him. He thought videos couldn’t be manipulated
in any manner.
Time for more education.
I started working with simple video manipulations, and in this, I started to teach my children that
videos are manipulated in the same manner as Photoshop. A good edit can fool you just as easily.
However, videos are more convincing because they move; therefore, you think it is being recorded
in real time. Not so!
I love technology and the things it can do. I do believe we should be educating our children in
these areas, and I think we need to teach them to be aware that people are using them for good
or bad just like everything else in life.
Education is key.
You learn not to compare yourself, or your life, to fake things when you know
how it is created.
This is a great little clip that showcases the video world. Use it to spark discussion within your family.
