Teach Your Kids To Be Creators

The Lego Boy has turned twelve. It probably won’t come as a big surprise for you to learn
he received Lego’s for his birthday. He is really into building things, and The Nurse and I
are trying to encourage him in his gifts. Did you know Lego’s has a robotic type Lego
package? It is super expensive, but it combines building with technology. We are thinking
of investing in a kit of these in the next year or two to help stimulate the ability to take
Lego’s to a new level. You can find it here:

I encourage my kids to not just be consumers of things, but to be creators of things too. I
am an Adobe Education Trainer, and within their program, they have numerous examples
of helping children utilize technology.

Technology isn’t going away. It will only become more powerful, and numerous industries are
looking for individuals that can utilize these programs, or better yet, create bigger ones. It is
a valuable skill to have, so I try to teach my children how to utilize these programs.

Unfortunately, being a consumer is easier than being a creator, so they gravitate to that
when given a choice for free time.

Usually.

If you give the Lego Boy new Lego’s he will go build and create, so I suppose it is like with adults.
You gotta find something you are willing to invest your time in that you can lose yourself in.
It’s a process.

I think, as adults, we forget how fun it can be to learn something new. Is there something you
have always wanted to learn?

What’s holding you back?

Are you only a consumer and not a creator?
