I have begun to pull together some of the design aspects to the book Be ~Biblical Wisdom
\nfor Children. Design is fun. Whelp, it is only fun, when you have the tools. Finding the tools
\ncan be difficult, and like anything in life, it is a process.<\/p>\n

If you want to design, you are going to have to invest time and money into buying stuff. The
\npeople that do NOT want to invest time and money are going to have a crappy product, and
\nthis is one point I will not back down from.<\/p>\n

Fonts are something few people think about, but once you are taught about fonts, you will look
\nat publishing in a new manner. In fact, it is very easy to stand out from the masses with just type.
\nIf you want a quick class on fonts, I recommend Lynda.com as a great starter point. The
\ninstructors will show you what fonts do and don’t do, and you will never look at type the same
\nway again.<\/p>\n

Start transitioning yourself over to bought fonts, so your work becomes different from the people
\nthat don’t think about type. The key point when buying fonts are to look at the license agreement.
\nLicensing your design elements can be a totally new experience. I completely understand. You
\nwant to look for a license that not only enables you to install it on your computer for multiple
\nprojects, but you will also want to have a license (which sometimes means two purchases) for
\nE-book format as well as just having it on your desktop. On top of that, if you want to have an
\napp of your book, you will need to buy a third license for that edition too. Remember to read
\nthe license agreement, as each place is different, and look at the difference between extended
\nlicenses and standard licenses within each company.<\/p>\n

Be forewarned, fonts are expensive.<\/p>\n

You can find introductory sales or just sales in general, but it isn’t uncommon for fonts to cost
\nthousands of dollars, and this is only for one type of license.<\/p>\n

Finally, your first buys should be a serif and a sans serif font. You want to use limited amounts of
\ndecorative fonts, and you always want readability to be first and foremost with your font choice. If
\nit is pretty, eye catching, or bold, but no one can read it, then it doesn’t matter. You never
\nreached your audience.<\/p>\n

I encourage you to start looking at the difference between professionally designed materials and
\nnon-professional. Non-professionals will use fonts that don’t match, use many colors, use many
\nsizes. Simple changes make such a big difference when you start designing materials.<\/p>\n
